Advanced Training

People joining the Group who have not passed the Advanced Test are either Associate or Social Members. All Associate members of the Group are assigned to a Tutor who will give the Associate as much guidance and practical tuition as required so that they have the opportunity to pass the Advanced Test.

Tutors are gold standard advanced drivers/riders who freely give up their time to assist Associate Members. Members who have already passed their test and require a refresh before their next test will be assigned a Tutor to brush up on their technique. Most training sessions last for approximately one hour and are carried out at times convenient to both the tutor and the Associate.

For Drivers, the tuition is usually given in the Associate’s own car apart from demonstration drives given by the tutor which are usually carried out in the tutor’s car.

For Riders, the Tutor will accompany the Associate on their own motorcycle and will relay comments at redetermined points along the route. Any out-of-pocket expenses will be agreed before any tution is undertaken usually to cover the cost of fuel.

When the Associate is ready for the Advanced Test, a pre-test will be arranged with an Advanced Tutor. If all is well then the Associate can make an application for a RoSPA test.

Advanced drivers/riders have a quiet efficiency in their actions and this derives from:

  • Critical and honest self-awareness and understanding of personal characteristics, attitude and behaviour, which are necessary for safe driving/riding.
  • Taking action to keep identified risks to a minimum
  • Awareness of limitations and those of the vehicle and the road.
  • Awareness of the risks inherent in particular road and traffic situations.
  • Concentration and good observation.
  • Continuously matching the vehicle's direction and speed to the changing conditions.
  • Skilful use of vehicle's controls.
